When I was in high school and applying for college scholarships, the scholarships that were most accessible or "easiest" to apply to were the more local scholarships affiliated with my school or community. I have tried applying to scholarships from online scholarship websites, but I never had much luck with those. Those scholarships are marketed to students all over the country and I always thought that it would be more difficult to win scholarships if there was more competition. You might have more luck with online scholarships than me, but I would also encourage you to reach out to your counselors, college counselors, and teachers to ask if there are any scholarships that they heard about. I won a community-based scholarship that my teacher told me about, and I won mostly because this scholarship was only available to students from my school. So I would suggest expressing interest in scholarships to the people around you and take advantage of the opportunities that not many other students really look into.

Hi Angelina! It's a great time to think about scholarships because you are right on the cusp of applying to college. So first definitely check out your high school and community; there are scholarships offered for students based on certain criteria so I would start looking within your own circle first. In addition there are websites as well where you can apply for scholarships, I will attach the two I know below. You create an account which is free and then select scholarships based on your own individual criteria. Lastly, search the colleges you are applying to because they may also have scholarships available that you can apply for as a high school student. See if you can contact the financial aid office, you really never know what kind of opportunities may be available so give it a try!

Best of luck!

This is great to see that you are looking ahead to gain scholarships for your future. There are a lot of websites that can help you identify options for scholarships and even apply in an easy fashion. Check out https://www.scholarships.com/ to get started. You can also look at the local level by typing your city/county + college scholarship to see if there are any local scholarships you may be eligible for.

Have you started to look at your goals of how much you are looking to gain in scholarships? I would recommend taking a step back and setting goals on what you are looking to achieve and then work backwards on varying award types that you could gain. Remember small scholarships can add up to big results.

While you prepare you could start to explore scholarship essays and start to draft copy of what you could include in the future so that you have a library of content to share out as you apply. Remember getting college scholarships can start now and even continue through college.
