[closed] What are some great ways to analyze information with data analysis?
Hello,
I am a college business senior, with a degree of administration. In the area of data analysis, what are some good techniques to do the job? I know, for example, that excel can be used to create pivot tables, sort tables, and make formulas that can help find information faster and easier. Are there any other software programs that can be used when looking at information? What are different types of information that are looked at?

Hi Aimee,
In terms of other programs to learn to analyze data, I'd definitely recommend looking into R and Python. I spent ~2 years as a data analyst, and though the only skills required when I first began my role was Excel, using R and Python definitely helped me learn to be more efficient with my time and helped me automate a lot of the formulas I was constantly running in Excel. Learning VBA, which works off Excel, would also be useful!
Something that really helped me as I tried to get a sense of the landscape for data analysis was to take the data science specialization track on Coursera. Though not all the classes might be necessary for you (machine learning and statistical inference are a lot more math heavy), some of the basics, such as the data scientist's toolbox, r programming, getting and cleaning data, exploratory data analysis, and reproducible research were extremely helpful for my career.
