It depends. Teaching young kids, older youth or college people varies. I taught high school and college and now m retired now. If you want to be a GOOD teacher, expect to spend a lot of time designing your class and talking with and LISTENING to students. That’s really important. Caring about your students is a lot of work. I loved teaching. I taught for over 35 years and miss it!

Lisa recommends the following next steps:

Talk to your favorite teachers and ask them why they became teachers

Hi Indhumathi,

It depends on how you want to be a teacher. I see that you used the word "professor" which in the US means being a teacher at the university or college level. At minimum, teaching at that level has an expectation of you having a high level of expertise at what you are teaching. So you should consider - what subject would you enjoy teaching to someone else? I use the word "enjoy" intentionally since teaching can be a hard job. You need to be passionate about what you do in order to work around hurdles. A hurdle as a teacher can be having to change the way you teach someone which may feel awkward to you. For example, I am visual learner. I can learn through watching someone do something. It holds meaning for me. Others I know have to learn by doing something. They have to handle the tool or take a shot at doing it and then getting feedback. Those are two very different techniques that require you to have a high level of skill in order to make that shift.
