[closed] What are some common controversial practices in the managment industry?

Hello,
My name is Aimee and I am a business senior in college. I have an associate's degree in administration and a concentration of management. So far, my goal is to complete my bachelor's degree and progress to becoming an office manager or an assistant at the least. My knowledge is limited to academics, so I am seeking more practical professional knowledge to propel myself forward despite criticisms and doubters. There are often practices that are controversial in the workplace, such as discussing religion in front of others. What are some other examples of controversial practices?

Thank you for your brainstorming,
Aimee #business-administration #business-management

I think this question is broader than just the situation you described of being in an office. I'm sure you already aware of your environment and reading social cues about what is appropriate to discuss and what is not in each particular situation. There are some offices in which talking about politics is definitely appropriate, such as working for a lobbyist, or perhaps in some areas of law. If you work for a non-profit, there may be discussions on topics that aren't typically discussed in a corporate setting. If you find that you gravitate toward discussing issues that are controversial, then you might consider a career in a field that is close to those topics. If not, you will learn what is and is not appropriate for your setting based on listening to others around you and, hopefully, your previous experience with other social settings.

A best practice is a method or technique that has been generally accepted as superior to any alternatives because it produces results that are superior to those achieved by other means or because it has become a standard way of doing things, e.g., a standard way of complying with legal or ethical requirements.
