Here's a great article on how to become a music producer: https://www.udemy.com/blog/how-to-become-a-music-producer/

the gist as I see it:
* learn as much as you can about music
* find a genre that interests you and start making music, find your creative niche
* meet as many people as you can that are also producing music -- get feedback and learn new techniques!

What exactly is a producer? You can produce yourself - be a Songwriter/ recording artist, and/or produce others and facilitate getting them recorded and marketing them these days through social media and gigs. World beats and hip hop is just a slice of the big picture. True professionals know a lot about music. It would serve a producer well to know about music basics, rhythms, understanding key signatures, chords, melody, & instrumentation.
An overview of arranging musical parts- leading you into mixing and mastering. You may not have to do all of these things yourself (but you might) as your team (find people to work with) will perform some of these tasks however you will be responsible in the end for good quality production. The more you know the better. For starters you can even download some free recording software called audacity and learn how to make tracks and to mix the tracks on your computer. Don't get discouraged, just set out to learn a little bit every day and keep adding to your body of knowledge. Study and read up on everything including classical, rock jazz and blues. Learn about the frequency spectrum of musical sound so that you can balance your production work into a pleasing mix. Best to you!

A Spotify account and some music gear at home.

Well, it can be a bit more complicated than that but that's the bare minimum. Building up your home studio is very important because it will help you be more diverse in the sound you can put out there and also improve the quality of that sound. In turn this will get more people to want to work with you.

Being a great person, who is nice, charismatic, and not greedy is also very important to getting clients. The last part can be very difficult when you're are paying so much for music gear and you really want money, but driving prices high will only reduce your clientele, which is all word of mouth.

In terms of skill, you can try to get an internship at a music studio or DIY with YouTube videos and other online resources. Like mastering a hard instrument, it takes time to be a good producer so give yourself some credit, it will get there.
