Music is not a small field. First decide what exactly you want to do in this career called "music". Figure out whether you want to specialize in any particular instrument or you want to be a composer or an arranger or a sound engineer or a studio recordist so on and so forth. There are different kind of career option available when it comes to music. There was a time when music was done more for mental peace and one's own satisfaction than for money. but now music has become commercialized. There are different courses in music available for beginners as well as intermediates and pros so it really depends on what level you are currently. But since I am a musician myself I would recommend you to get the degrees from the royal school of music in all the eight grades in any particular instrument or western classical music which is something really great and learn for music aspirants. Good luck!

Music academia includes learning music theory, conducting, a few core instruments (piano, usually a band or orchestra instrument, sometimes a more modern instrument), performance, music history, sight singing, ear training, and likely some classes in education. While this is fun for some, it is intense for others. This will best land you a job in a regional orchestra or as a music teacher/ instructor in a local school system.
Music business will get you involved with a communications style degree. You will be studying and participating in promotions, likely a radio station or podcast, making materials for promotions, working with local businesses, and learning about equipment in radio station and on stage. This will get you a job as a radio promoter, a concert promoter, working with television stations, working with promotional and advertisement agencies. Most people who I know who did this for college got promotional tickets for all sorts of musical events as well as free music and promotional materials.
Music recording and production usually takes place at a specialized school with high end equipment that allows musicians to have hands on with professional equipment and showcase their skills. These schools have you setting up sound equipment, using a console or a DAW, using various software tools, using sound containment rooms either quieting or reverberating sound, setting up microphones for various recordings, and setting up the technical parts of performances. People at these schools usually end up as a recording engineer, playing in a professional band, working with equipment for touring bands, or working in television or radio broadcast as well.
I was in music school for a short time and was doing all of the theory classes and playing whatever I could but I was limited in my skills. I normally don't recommend music school to someone unless the sing, play piano, play a band instrument, and a percussion instrument already. If you do, then this is definitely the degree for you! Music business or communications is more of a fun degree to get, it has you around musicians but not actively playing music. It will expose you to a lot about buisness, sometimes this degree is desireable, sometimes not. Sound engineering usually costs a little bit more for schooling but should give you more hands on equipment enough to navagate a career in the music industry.
A music degree AND another degree like a business degree or a science degree is seen as a plus however. This proves that your mind is capable of thinking more than a couple different ways. This will also show you have an awareness of humanities in fields that can be rather rigid or lack creative and abstract thinking.
Either way keep practicing, keep listening, keep performing, keep going to concerts, and keep doing your research so you can keep music actie in your life!
