Chia’s Answer

I would ask myself a few questions:

1. What about this career field gets me excited?
2. How does this connect with my own personal interests, values and beliefs?
3. What types of skills are needed for this type of career? Do learning those skills get me energized or does it drain me?
4. What are some of the downsides in this career? (If you're unsure of the answer, consider the below.)

I would recommend finding someone, whether a teacher, a professional working in that specific career field, or a counselor/coach to get their perspectives. It's always helpful to have more than one viewpoint so don't limit yourself to just one individual or conversation.

Emma’s Answer

I recommend reflecting on why you've lost interest or what is challenging. If you haven't lost interest yet but are anxious/afraid of the possibility, then I recommend reflecting on that as well. These reflections will help increase your self awareness and give you a foundation for finding a new path.

Possible questions to ask yourself:
- Why is it difficult to stay interested in this field of study?
- Do I have a history/tendency to switch and try new things? (this is not necessarily negative, just something to know about yourself)
- What were the original reasons for choosing it? Are those still true today?
- Which aspects ARE interesting and exciting about this field?
- What other fields of study or career paths are interesting/exciting and why?
- What constraints or dependencies are there in switching, and how important are they? e.g. future earning potential, time left to finish studies, etc

I also agree with questions from @Chia, especially the point about whether learning/studying the skills is energizing or draining
