What's work life like in a Mortuary?

I'm trying to learn more about work life in a Mortuary as I want to become a Mortician in a few years. Does the work ever become mentally taxing? What are some skills you never thought would be useful in the field but ended up helping you out in the long run?

Hello! While I am not in this profession personally, I do have a family member and a very close friend who own (separate) funeral homes. Unfortunately neither of them are on this platform, and I can't speak to how they feel about their profession, but as a close observer of their day-to-day life I can say that they work far more hours than what I traditionally see others work (and this is coming from a person who spent the majority of my career in management consulting, where the norm for working hours is 60-80 per week). They are constantly on call and may need to drop what they're doing with their family in a moment's notice. They are extremely patient with the families they work with and are able to keep calm in high-emotion settings.

Hope there are some more professionals on here who can give you deeper guidance than this!

Best regards,
Christine
