As you can see at https://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Interior_Designer/Salary and https://www.salary.com/research/salary/benchmark/interior-designer-i-salary the salary can vary widely. The ranges I saw were from $30k to $70k.

I believe this will depend in location, experience, and mostly reputation. I think this type of job is more art than science and trends change. So designers that are 'hip' and 'famous' or well known locally can command higher pay than others.
