The AF Academy gets thousands of applications every year. Some specific ways to add to your personal application are: Become an Eagle Scout. Join the HS Civil Air Patrol or Junior ROTC. Schedule a meeting with your local Congressional representative. Take an ASVAB prep class. None of these guarantee acceptance, but they are little extras that help.

Military academies are all looking for the same type of well-rounded individuals. Key characteristics are good academic record, physically fit, leadership experience/potential, and being active in community through charitable causes. You need to be strong in all areas. If not, your likelihood of success in a very competitive environment at any of the academies will be diminished.
But despite how good you look on paper, the key ingredient to success will come down to personal motivation and how bad you want it. It’s a tough 4 years, but very rewarding.
