How do I go about getting basic logistics credentials without a four year degree?

I have a bachelors degree in Fine art, and work in the art services field, and want to transition out of an operations type role. I thought this might help further that part of my career course, and possible shift. My current role in operations is as a Master Carpenter/ Fabricator/ Crating Technician.

First decide if you wish to work in the domestic or international markets. If domestic, try and find a shipping clerk position with a trucking company or domestic freight forwarder. If you prefer international logistics, it is a little more challenging, but there are many open import or export customer service positions available with international freight forwarders. There are also opportunities are with domestic truck brokers, however these are mainly sales position. Your knowledge of crate building will be very helpful in any role. It is a very exciting industry and you learn very quickly if willing.

I took the Certified Supply Chain Professional course. The only pre-requisite was having a 4 year degree. This course and subsequent certification provides a great overview on the world of supply chain management. If you are looking to get your foot in the door, this is a great way to do it.

Timeline is about 3 months for the prep course and a month of self-study. The test is no joke. Would encourage pocketprep (requires paid subscription) but definitely worth it. To take it a step further, I would pair the CSCP with a PMP certification. Best of luck!
