If your family is already in farming, I would connect with them about the viability of being apart of the family business. If that is not an option, I would suggest a college degree from a land grant school that supports farming or Agriculture.
My alma mater, Michigan State has an entire college related to Ag and it's varying sub areas. For example, there is a degree in Agribusiness management that would help as it relates to hedging commodity prices. There are other degrees more specific to the science of farming.
I would also consider what type of farming is it that you want to do and if you don't have land readily available to you, creating a plan to get access to land that is suitable for the farming you are interested in doing.
