Chirayu’s Answer

Discovering colleges that have your desired sports and career programs can be done through the following steps: Start by using online resources to research colleges and universities that have programs related to your desired sport or career. Websites like collegeboard.org, petersons.com, or niche.com can provide information about individual colleges and universities. Contact organizations related to your desired sport or career and ask for recommendations on colleges that have strong programs in that area. Reach out to the colleges and universities you are interested in and ask about their sports and career programs, as well as their admission requirements. Attend college fairs and speak with representatives from colleges and universities to gather more information about their sports and career programs.

To apply to a specific college, you'll need to follow their application process, which may include: Submitting an application form and fee. Taking standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. Submitting transcripts, test scores, and other academic records. Writing essays or personal statements. Requesting letters of recommendation from teachers or other references. It's important to carefully review and follow each college's specific application requirements and deadlines.

Haley’s Answer

Hi Brandon,

I would suggest doing some research about what schools have the sports team you are looking for and then reach out to their admissions office or do a virtual information session (usually can be found on the school's website.) This will tell you more about the academic programs they offer. Also, if you are willing to play club sports you can choose a school that has academics that sound interesting to you and then sign up for the club sports team once you get there. I would recommend focusing on the types of classes and opportunities the school offers and then exploring what the sports program looks like.

As for applying, most schools are on the "common application" but you can get more information about how to apply by visiting the school's website or reaching out to the admissions office. You will also want to schedule a time to take the SAT or ACT in order to prepare yourself to apply for colleges. You can prepare for these standardized tests by taking free practice tests online and reading books at the bookstore or the library about how the tests are formatted. When I was applying to colleges, I would go to the bookstore and read books about colleges without having to purchase them but just to get some advice here and there. I would highly suggest this!

Look into programs that you have interest in, then follow up with college admissions office to see what is needed to get accepted into those schools.

Good luck to you.

Shiloh’s Answer

Look up the colleges you’re interested in and align with your goals and career path. Then reach out to admissions and ask how to go about applying. Most the time when you’re looking at the programs they will give you the information on how to apply! Best of wishes. Feel free to ask more as the time comes.

Richard J (Rich)’s Answer

I do not disagree with the other pieces of advice above. If you are good in a sport - you can talk to your high school coach about the recommendation for schools that you would want to pursue based on the sport. You will have to decide if you want to apply to a Division 1 school (very demanding sports programs) or Division II or III where you still get to play but not as demanding in some cases. Combine those choices with your choice of academic pursuit and you equal what schools you want to apply to. Two other pieces of advise - 1) watch location and cost - out of state schools are much more expensive than instate schools and 2) work with your guidance counselor and do research on scholarship opportunities based on your areas of interest. There are a vast number of scholarship programs available - but have to start early in applying
