Hi Dhahrian,
Great question! Sports digital marketing is a very niche and specific profession. As a result, I am going to keep my answer rather simple and short. It's business. It's digital/web. Its sports.
1. How do sports/athletics make money? How does a company associated with sports/athletics increase that profit/revenue? And how do they accomplish this in using the web?
2. Who are the companies, professionals, and their strategies for accomplishing what is stated above?
3. How do you learn more about & increase your skills in what is stated above?
Thanks!
Clint

Hello Dahrian,
A common starting point for many individuals is to cover the sports teams at their own schools. If your school has sports teams, I'd suggest that you begin there. Your next steps could differ based on whether you're interested in working for a specific team or organization. If that's the case, consider reaching out to your school's athletic department.
However, if you're more inclined towards external journalism, get in touch with your school's media organization, be it newspaper, television, etc. This will provide you with the opportunity to start building a portfolio of your work.
Remember, most employers in this field will want to see a portfolio that showcases work relevant to the position they're hiring for. So, seize every opportunity to create a collection of impressive work.
