How will I know I am using my skills with the right population of people if I am only allowed to move forward with one type of population?

I want to work as a social worker, but I am not sure if I want to work in a nursing facility or school district since I have experience in both and enjoy both environments.

You may want to consider an interest inventory and a personality test. There are many free options available online that will then suggest careers that others matching your interests and personality find fulfilling. Look at the results, do they favor children or adults more? You may find a pattern that could lead you to which environment you will find more fulfilling.
