Frank’s Answer

Hello Harmony,

I totally felt the same way when I first started thinking about my career. I often found myself saying things like "I could see myself doing so many different things as a career, how do I know which one is the right one for me?"

To help answer this question, I highly recommend writing down all the possible things you might be interested down on a piece of paper and ranking them with a few categories in mind:
1. Given my current skillset, how hard would it be to enter this industry?
2. Of all the options on my list, which are the ones I'm most eager to try?
3. *This one is key* If I were to decide that this particular option on my list wasn't right for me, how would the skills and knowledge I would learn in attempting this career help me pivot to another option on my list?

In short, be specific about some of the career options you would like to give a shot. Often times I find making a list helps visualize the problem in a different way and eases my mind in making a decision. With the three questions above in mind, start trying the options on your list and you'll start to get a clearer picture.

Hope this helps!

Hi Harmony, congratulations on your graduation! If you just graduated high school, taking classes across a broad set of subjects is a great way to expose yourself to all different areas before you narrow your focus. If you just graduated from college and are looking towards a career path, focusing on what you're passionate about or what your strengths are can be a helpful way to match a job to your skillset. Regardless of what stage of life, it is important to remember that changing your mind is normal and trying out different jobs is a good thing! No matter what you pursue, give it your all and do what makes you happy.

Enise’s Answer

Hello Harmony,

I am a student at the university, and I used to ask this question all the time. Yet, I prepared myself in multiple things.

My major is Literature, and interesting in Marketing; because I attended Weekenders at the university and I know how to plan on business. Likewise, I did Digital Marketing internships as it became my favourite thing to do. I had also done ambassador for a company who seeks attention on annual internship programme. I basically used my marketing strategies to advertise on social media, made campaigns, and why people should not miss the opportunity.

As I am studying Literature, I fond of writing poetry and reading literary books. Literature had become my absolute passion when I was in high school; it is because that I mesmerised by the literary background and story/poetry publishes were amazing to read in my free time.

My advice is that find your talent and passion, even if it takes whole life. Let the time flows, because you may not know how life can guide you through the pathway. Just learn something new everyday, know and believe yourself.

I hope this helps.

Harvey’s Answer

Almost everyone will tell you to follow what you are interested in, which is natural. But people almost never mention that you should also ask yourself what kind of lifestyle you want to live.

Remember that while your job is a large part of your life, beyond your 9-5 is a majority of your time, so what do you want to do with it? What kind of house do you want to live in? What do you need if you want to travel often or if your hobbies are expensive? Would you value working from home or being in the office, or being outside?

You may have a burning desire to do a particular job, but perhaps if you are not as set on a particular line of work, think about what type of job will facilitate the lifestyle that you want, and you will be surprised at what you find!
