Thank you for question. I am glad to hear that you prepare for you job interview.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Firstly, you need to review the job specification and your CV. You need to highlight the area that your qualification that meet the job requirements
2. Think about the question the interviewer may ask eg introduce yourself, why you have interest in the job, etc and prepare & practice
3. Think about the outfit you will put on. Make sure you wear appropriate clothes. Try it in advance including the shoes
4. Try the makeup in advance
5. Plan the transport to the interview venue in advance. Arrive on time.
Hope this helps!Good Luck!

Hi Rylee,

I’m Katie, a licensed cosmetologist in Florida with 2 years of experience in esthetics. I started just like you, NO EXPERIENCE. What I did was apply for a job at a mall, particularly a fashion store, and that helped build customer service skills and expose me to beauty trends in fashion. When I started going to college for cosmetology, I got a job at a beauty retailer, Ulta Beauty. If you’re more interested in cosmetics, makeup, skincare, hair or nail care, I would highly recommend getting a job at a store like Ulta or Sephora. It’ll give you customer service skills, product knowledge, and marketing experience. You don’t need any experience to work at stores like that.

Now, if you want a licensed makeup artist, hair stylist, nail tech, or esthetician career, feel free to start out at stores as mentioned before because it’ll give you experience, but I wouldn’t stay there. At that point, I would go to a salon, spa, or studio. You’ll get more clients and greater exposure to different techniques.

I hope this helps!

Hi Rylee,

Great question – we've all been there at the start of our careers. I'll start with how to start a career in an industry (e.g. beauty stores) without having experience. There are two strategies that work in every industry, especially when you are at the start of your career.

The first strategy is to start by getting your foot in the door. Your first position there will most likely not be your "dream job" but it will get you into the industry or into the company. Options include becoming an assistant, becoming an intern, volunteering, or doing another entry level job that is available. This gets you around other people at the company, shows that you can be a hard-worker, and shows that have enough passion for your "dream job" that you are willing to do something else to get a chance at your dream job. a

The second strategy is by networking. Ask your counselor, friends, family, parent's family, parent's co-workers if they know anyone at a company in that industry. Connect with that person to learn about their job and express your interest in learning/working in the industry. Then see if that person can connect you to more people at their company or in their industry. If you keep doing that I can almost guarantee you will find your foot in the door. The secret of the job world is that nearly everyone gets their job because of who they know.

You do a good job in job interviews by preparing ahead of time. Some questions to prepare for are what are your greatest strengths and greatest opportunities for improvement. Prepare for the question tell me abut a time you were challenges and faced failure, and how you overcame it. Research industry trends, top companies in the industry, and find talking points that you are passionate about. Take a look at your own personal history of experiences (clubs, sports, classes, etc) and think about what things made you amazing at those activities and look which of those skills could be used in your future industry. For example, if you are amazing at soccer because you are able to place the ball in the perfect place for your teammates you probably have a knack for planning ahead and thinking ahead of the competition.

Hope this is helpful!!! We all had the same questions when we started our career.
