Greetings, Opeyemi!

Embarking on a journey to become a marketer can be an exhilarating and fulfilling career choice.

Here are some practical steps to guide you in becoming a proficient marketer:

Identify your niche: The marketing landscape is vast, encompassing numerous specializations. These can range from search engine optimization (SEO), social media, conventional marketing, email marketing, influencer marketing, brand marketing, to product marketing. Devote some time to explore these various marketing domains and identify the one that sparks your interest the most.

Hone your skills: After pinpointing your preferred niche, it's time to sharpen your skills. Pursue credible courses or certifications, whether face-to-face or online, to build a robust foundation in marketing. Consider securing a marketing internship to garner invaluable hands-on experience.

Understand the industry: Get acquainted with key industry concepts, such as business-to-business (B2B) versus business-to-consumer (B2C), and the 4 Ps of marketing: product, price, promotion, and place. Browse through job postings, follow thought leaders and experts in marketing, watch informative videos, and connect with marketing professionals in your circle to gain insights into the essential skills and experiences needed to thrive.

Build a portfolio: Compile a portfolio that demonstrates your skills and experiences. This could feature marketing campaigns you've contributed to, blog articles you've penned, or social media accounts you've managed.

Start job hunting: After honing your skills and assembling a portfolio, it's time to apply for marketing roles. Consider starting with entry-level positions to acquire experience and gradually climb the career ladder.

Keep learning: Marketing is a dynamic field that continually evolves, so staying current with the latest trends and technologies is crucial. Participate in conferences, peruse industry publications, and persist in enhancing your skills to stay competitive.

I trust these guidelines will assist you in kickstarting your journey towards becoming a marketer. Best of luck!

So the number one rule in marketing is you are not selling anything except yourself. If you can sell you? They will buy whatever you have. You must convince the person(s) that you have something need or they don't even realize yet that they want. That takes practice and overall mindset. A good marketer or sales person needs to have no feeling or fear of failure, for it is the best tool and greatest gift in this field. Use every failure as a lesson. Learn from it. Dissect what you did right and wrong. Then go out and fail again. One day? You may just find it has been a while since you failed.

There are a few ways to start a career in marketing. You can go to a traditional college/university or you can get training online. There are many different areas of marketing that you can get into, so you should explore those and decide which areas interest you the most. The fundamentals of marketing will remain the same regardless of which area of marketing you choose and the training you receive will teach them to you. I, myself, am involved in affiliate marketing as well as content marketing and while they are both very different, the foundation for both is the same, which is you must find something that people need or want and be able to fill that gap for them. It's all stems from supply and demand. The world of marketing is very exciting and always changing.
