For a person looking to pursue a career in Museum Fabrication, what college programs/Majors would give me the best skills and training?

I am a 9th grader and who is interested greatly in pursuing museum fabrication as a career. I have been apprenticing and training with a professional fabricator and have become very invested in the job. I have recently started looking for majors that would give me the right skills and training to become successful in the field. I was hoping to learn about what kind of college programs are needed or helpful for this type of work. Thank you!

Kieran;

Hi

While I have not recruited specifically for professionals with museum fabrication experience, I have found that the best way to find out about any career is to go online and ask. I used Google. Here is what I found. If you look at multiple sites look for consistencies in what they say.

Below is information from a blog I found online by Mark Walhimer who is Managing Partner of Museum Planning, LLC, a museum planning and exhibition project management firm of interactive educational environments for Science Centers, Children's Museums and Natural History Museums. I have supplied the link to the blog and the list of colleges and universities to get you started.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach back out.

I worked a museum years ago. Museum studies degrees are helpful for curators but not necessarily fabricators. Do you have any museums nearby your house that you love going to? If so, reach out to their staff and ask if you could meet and shadow one of their fabricators. I know here in NYC, where I live, a lot of the fabricators have art degrees, primarily sculpting degrees.
