Hi Ed,

You can apply in Dell Technologies for Grad Intern programs. This one of the best ways to experience about industry and current trends. You get to work on latest products and with experienced team members.

This can also become a career for you or you can take your next leap from here.

Thanks,
SUKHI.

Michelle’s Answer

There are many opportunities in this industry and at many different types of companies. I currently work for AT&T and have the option to go into many different fields within the company. I would recommend looking in to where you would like to live and what type of company you would like to work for (large or small etc.) The other thing to look for is Development Programs or Internship Programs on the career page of the companies website. AT&T for example has multiple Development and Internship from sales, technology, HR, project management and almost all of these areas have tech positions.

Michelle recommends the following next steps:

Research development and internship programs on a companies website via Career section.
Reach out to individuals in your life that have had an internship and ask them questions about the experience.
Advice: have at least 2 internships under your belt will help guide you when you get out into the work force to pick your position.

Mark’s Answer

I would canvas technology companies that have campuses or office locations close to you for internships. Most of the large organizations do offer robust programs that are very beneficial. I work for Verizon and we do offer these types of programs which can be found on our main website. Be selective in where you choose to gain an internship, make sure there mission statement and values are in line with what you believe.

Even if you are not able to land an internship at a major corporation, there are plenty of smaller companies or subsidiaries that could have internships that are of interest to you that you can take advantage of. There are also many retailers in the electronic space that could offer part time work during your breaks, summers, or even during the semester depending on your availability. For example Best Buy or any of the major wireless carriers.

These internships will help you to gain valuable insights in the industry and will also allow you to make sure it is what you want to do after college. It will help line you up for a career post college.

Lastly, sales is a great place to start a career in technology or electronics after college, that is where I started. It allows you to learn the business from the ground up, gain mastery of the products and services, and also gain insights from customers directly. Sales roles often allow you to determine your salary potential based on your work ethic and level of success.

Best of luck to you!
