Joan’s Answer

Hello Andrew!

Kudos on your path to becoming a construction worker!

Based on data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for construction laborers and helpers in 2020 stood at $37,890 annually, which is about $18.22 per hour. However, keep in mind that your income may differ based on variables like your location, experience, and the particular tasks of the job.

This should provide a general picture of the salary you can anticipate as a beginner in the construction field.

Hi Andrew!
I agree with both answers! Construction offers a variety of job types and pay can vary depending on location, experience, and specific skills. Researching different construction roles and companies in your area will give you the most accurate idea of potential earnings.

Lucero’s Answer

Hi Andrew!

I agree with the other answer. Construction has many scopes of work ranging from framing to carpentry to the finishing touches. What you will get paid will vary on the industry/scope as well as your experience.

I highly suggest for you to look at which scope of work you are interested in going and then do some research from there. At times, job postings will have the average pay including what requirements or experience they require or if they will train you.

Oscar’s Answer

Hey Andrew!

Glad you’re curious about the blue collar world. It’s a very rewarding career path. Money is always a tough thing to nail down considering field of work, location, and experience. I started my electrical apprenticeship in 2015 in Riverside CA where I started off making $13 an hour with absolutely no background in construction. While that may not sound as sexy as one might think, I was working up to my journeyman license which is the equivalent of a degree. Now, with almost 10 years of experience, I’m making well over 130k a year. I have many friends in welding, hvac, plumbing, and pipe fitting who are in similar situations. We need more people to take over these jobs that keep the world running. Hope this helps encourage the next generation.
