"As a ninth-grader, I'm trying to figure out what I might want to do in the future. I want to make smart choices about my future career, and any advice you have would be awesome!

Hi Zyaire! It is great that you are thinking about this in 9th grade! It is great to stay involved in your school community. Joining clubs is a great thing to do...but also keep in mind, that as you go into high school you may have an interest for which there are no clubs in your school. If that is the case, take the initiative, and with the help of school officials you can always create a new club! You would be surprised with how many other students will benefit from your initiative. This will help with your leadership skills as well. Good Luck!

First of all, try to decide the field you would like to be in the future. I mean your college major and career path in general. Then adapt your daily activities to that field. Work on your self-improvement, and intellectual development. Take part in internship and work experience programs. It's earlier for you yet to think of work, but on the other hand, you will be more prepared and informed/experienced about the job market. You can also do volunteer work. Options are endless.

Zyaire -- much good advice has already been given, but there is one thing I might add. Participate in a team sport. If you are not athletically inclined, find a team you can participate in: a math team, a bowling team.
The idea is to gain the social and communication skills through team involvement that will serve you well in your future. If you are athletically skilled, by all means carry that skill into college. You will find your team is the center of your social life, and the bridge to a comfortable transition to college life.

In my opinion, if a student is more interested in mathematics he/she should continue the studies in computer sciences more specifically Artificial intelligence and deep learning are the most emerging fields that are shaping the world to a different level. If a student has interest in physics and mathematics both then they should pursue Engineering because everything around us owes to Engineers. And If the student is interested in biology then they must pursue medical fields. In conclusion everything depends upon the interest you have. If you have no interest you cannot innovate the world with your powers and once who has powers to innovate the world becomes the trend of the era. So there is nothing much like trending fields. Yes AI and Deep learning are trending but mainly all depends on your interest and potentials.
Learning about industry trends is important but it doesn't directly answer the student's question. This learner doesn't mention their passions so I'm assuming they are still in the career exploration phase. Do you have any courses, clubs, or extracurriculars you would recommend so that this student can learn if they have an interest in science, math, etc?

This is a fantastic question! I was involved in many organizations throughout High School and College. I do not regret any of the clubs I joined. I learned a ton about who I was and what motivated me to succeed. This is also a great way to meet people who have already established their careers. This leads to opportunity! I would keep an open mind about what clubs you join and then go do it! Good luck and I know whatever you choose to do, you will be successful!

Though you may think a math or science based club may look the most impressive, I'd encourage you to stay true to yourself and if instead an art or more creative club interests you more, listen to that and trust yourself.

Hi Zyaire! It's great to hear you are already thinking about clubs and things to join so early on! I would recommend getting involved in as much as you can in both high school and college if you plan to attend. Clubs, sports, fundraisers, etc. The more you can experience and learn throughout your schooling will only help you. Joining different types of clubs can help you determine where your interests really lie. Once you have an area you find you enjoy, try and learn as much as you can about that area. For example, if you join a marketing club, and you realize you find advertising and social media marketing interesting, you may want to major in marketing in college, or get a job at a local marketing agency (or a remote role).
Another suggestion would be to get involved in your community. Lots of companies and organizations support local charities and communities. You never know who you will meet. Networking early can help you find a job years down the line.
