Do you live in a city where you have easy access to a library? Or does your school have a library? Usually libraries have quiet floors. I would recommend looking into those spaces.

Sometimes, dorms can be a busy and loud place especially when you’re looking for a quite study environment.

When I’m on campus, I like to go to the library to study! At my university, there are floors in the library specifically for quite study. There are also individual study rooms available that allows more privacy.

In addition to the campus library, I like to study in empty classrooms and lounges. Check with your college department and ask if there is a schedule for the rooms, and if there are any study lounges.

Lastly, I have been really enjoying studying at a coffee shop. The music is usually very soothing. You just have to do your research and figure out which coffee shop near you is quite enough for your studying.

Hi Laura,
This is a good question. I found I can become distracted very quickly during school, and a quiet place is necessary to study. However, I would not be too worried about this issue as it is a common issue among many students and most institutions address this somehow.
I assume your dorm is located within walking distance to campus. Many college institutions have 24-hour libraries which students can access. Often, schools will have some transportation or security for students walking around. For example, my school had a van that would pick up and drop off students for free to these areas and provided safety officers to escort students.
Additionally, many have buildings to which students have access 24-hours a day, and these can be used to study as well. I found that my favorite place to study was my school’s atrium and lecture halls during my schooling. During the day, the idea of studying was unfathomable. However, at night these areas were either abandoned utterly and silent, or everyone was there to study and be productive anyway, so it was hushed. I also found many places I enjoyed learning was cafeterias throughout campus because I wanted the open environment and large tables.
This is a valid concern entering college. However, I assure you you are not alone in having this fear, and it will be addressed by the institution one way or another. In all honesty, there is a good chance your dorm will have a quiet area for productivity, and you can study there without traveling far.
