How much free time do you have as a Hairstylist?
I am a Sophomore in High school. I would like to be a Hairstylist when I am older.

That is an interesting question, and the more you pursue such questions, the more it will help you in your decision. As a hairstylist, you will normally be acquiring customers who seek you as their stylist. That means you must be good enough to lure them from whomever currently does their hair. So, when you acquire enough customers for the number of hours you wish to work and the days you wish to work, you can then refuse new customers. In summary, you will be fully in charge of how many hours you want to work. Your biggest challenge will be to first attract the new customers. I wish you well in this.

It really depends on how and where you choose to work. If you work for a company where you’re paid an hourly wage chances are that you’ll have a schedule that may not always be convenient for you. But if you choose to be an independent contractor, you do have a little bit more freedom. As an independent contractor you can rent out a studio and set your own hours, or rent a booth and follow business hours. This is also something you would ask the shop owner.
Now in the beginning if you do not have any clientele, and you choose the independent contractor way, you’re looking at being in a shop pretty much all day, but you probably will not be working all day, just waiting for a potential client to walk-in. Once you have your clientele you can choose the hours and amount of days you want to work.
