How will being understanding help to obtain a job in the marketing feild?

I am an 8th grader who is searching for what career I want to pursue when I get older. Specifically, I'm interested in the marketing field and real estate.

When I first started out, I was promoting a nonprofit offering outdoor experiential education. I had been doing this type of outdoor work for years, and everything I created was from my own perspective of how great it was for me. Except, none of my marketing was working. Then I realized that my audience had entirely different motivations, rationales, needs, dreams - that I wasn't even considering. And I saw it running a media agency - clients would want their ads on HGTV or the Hallmark channel, because THEY liked those channels. It was hard to convince them that their preferences were irrelevant - it was whether or not their target audience watched, that was the key. Matty Oates
