James’s Answer

Hello Ezekiel,

Interesting question! Responsibility skills will generally benefit you within any professional occupation.

As a software engineer, a lot of this comes down to taking pride in your work.. and encompasses things like:
- Delivering to the best of your ability.
- Taking personal responsibility for the success of the project you're working on.
- Caring about the quality of what you deliver.
- Wanting to ensure the users of your deliverable have a great user-experience.
- Exercising due diligence - for example, ensuring that everything is thoroughly tested.
- Being curious about wider industry considerations impacting on your project.

As you progress in the software engineering profession, you might pick up more overt leadership responsibilities too. This could be things like being the official "owner" of certain areas of code, libraries, products. But also perhaps being responsible for the overall delivery of a team - as a team lead, technical lead, scrum-master etc.

Venkat’s Answer

Adding to James's Answer, any profession requires you to be responsible for all aspects of the deliverables with the services/skills you provide. As you grow more as an engineer you might accumulate a lot more responsibilities both in your personal and work life and the responsibility skills will help you prioritize your tasks and be more disciplined.

Being responsible helps you be more disciplined, collaborative, and reliable and build better relationships both in your personal as well as a software engineer's life.

Christopher’s Answer

In virtually all professional fields, including Software Engineering, responsibility, robust organizational abilities, and effective communication skills are essential.

As a Software Engineer in particular, you'll often be involved in projects with specific deliverables that could be your responsibility. You'll need to understand the structure of the problem, devise a solution, and plan its implementation even before you begin coding. As a professional, it's expected of you to independently organize and deliver this, or seek assistance by asking pertinent questions to the appropriate people should you encounter any difficulties.

Wes’s Answer

Being responsible is very important to be promoted and get better pay.
If you like, try asking your parents or others for 1 or 2 things you can be responsible for and then do it everyday.
Some days will be easy and some days will be difficult.
The most important thing is to do your assignment the best you can everyday.
If you have trouble, don't be afraid to ask for help.
Do this and you will be a very valuable person in your future job.
