Hi there! You are asking a great question! I also love to write. When we think of being a writer, most people think of authors of books or newspaper journalists. But, there are some other pretty great jobs and careers out there where you can write and make a living full time. Two of the areas to consider are marketing and advertising. Marketing teams often have people who can write creatively about the company, events, employees, products and customers. You might have a chance to write a company blog or contribute to the stories on the company website. This could include social work clinics, or non profits. My girlfriend is a writer for an Advertising Agency. The title in advertising is "Copywriter". She gets to be creative every day and write some of the things you have heard in product commercials or seen in magazines and websites (like T-Mobile, and Pepsi). Both marketing and advertising companies usually offer internships. This might be a good way to see if other types of writing interests you. I only mentioned two writing careers but there are also jobs like: Screenwriter, Technical writer, Video Game writer, and Government Grant writer. There are a lot of options out there and it may take a few times trying different types of writing before something really resonates with you. Hope that help and best of luck.

Have you thought about technical writing? Or medical writing? Not easy to get into, but could cover what you are looking for in terms of writing plus psychology

Some additional options that I'd never considered until being hired for the jobs are fundriasing writing and proposal writing. Non-profits (especially the larger ones, e.g., universities) have fundraising/institutional advancement departments that work to raise money. The donor relations portions of those departments write acknowledgement communications, scholarship updates and marketing, and a slew of other communications materials. The bigger the organization, the better your chance of not having to pull double duty (such as writing and stewardship/data, etc.).

My current position is as a proposal writer, which is technically sales (within my org's marketing and sales division). Many on our team are former journalists, and the recent business focuses on storytelling and improv (yes, and) have increased the visibility and importance of the writing craft in a business setting.
