Debbie Yoro’s Answer

At times, yes. It can challenging and rewarding. Being able to have good self care and resiliency is beneficial. Also having a supervisor you can meet with regularly is helpful. Having your own support team (formal or informal) is encouraged.

Jim’s Answer

Depends on what you consider tough...hours? pay? working for a big company? Little company? It will really depend on your personal values. Do you see helping someone as rewarding work? Then it may not be "tough" work because you may finding yourself loving it...part of learning how to be a good therapist is learning not to "own" all the issues your clients bring. And how to do that a comes with time...there are also many forms of therapy and many types of different clients. As your job evolves you need to find your best nitch... I enjoyed working with youth when I was a young adult and later didn't like it as much. I was also one not to"like" working with senior citizens but my wife loves working with them. Dive in get exposed and see what really moves you...

Jim recommends the following next steps:

Look for programs you can volunteer at and get exposure.
