What is the importance of art What makes it exceptional and attracts people towards it?

I am asking this because if an interviewer asks me, I would like to provide a profound answer. Right now, it feels like I know the importance of art, but I struggle to articulate it. Also, I want to deepen my understanding of art.

Hi Pearl!

I see you're asking in case they ask this in an interview.
To better help you I would love to have a bit more context into the kind of job you're trying to land.

From my experience, I received a similar question when I interviewed to get into studying "visual communications".

I told my director I loved art and design.
He then asked:

- ¿What is the difference between art and design then?

To that I answered:

- Well, I think the main difference is in the purpose for what it was created.
Design usually serves a purpose, wether it's innovation, improvement or solving a problem amongst other things.
And art, I believe the meaning is more personal. As an artist you can define the meaning of a piece. Other people might interpret it from their point of view. Art can be about sending a message, or conveying a feeling, or neither. I believe art is a more personal approach to creating something and doesn't necessarily serves a purpose.

That's it Pearl! Think about what art means to you. And speak from that.

I hope this helps!

Alexsandria’s Answer

I would say personally, the importance of art is how an individual harnesses their view on the world and/or their emotions. It is also way for other individuals that share the same feelings or view but are unable to express them can resonate with their own feelings and views.

Faith’s Answer

Art is important for several reasons.
Firstly, art has the power to evoke emotions and stir up feelings within individuals. Whether it be joy, sadness, anger, or nostalgia, art can connect with people on a deep emotional level. This emotional connection can be cathartic for individuals, providing them with a way to process and make sense of their feelings and experiences.

Secondly, art can inspire and motivate. Whether it be through the beauty of a painting, the power of a sculpture, or the storytelling of a film, art has the potential to ignite passion and creativity within individuals. It can challenge people to think critically, question their beliefs, and consider alternative perspectives.

Additionally, art plays a significant role in culture and society. It serves as a reflection of the times, capturing the essence of a particular era or moment in history. Art can also be a powerful tool for social change, shedding light on important issues and sparking conversations around topics such as equity, justice, and human rights.

What makes art exceptional and attracts people towards it can transcend boundaries and speak to the human experience. Art has a universal appeal that can be appreciated by people from all walks of life, regardless of their background or beliefs. It has the power to bring people together, fostering a sense of community and connection.

In summary, the importance of art lies in its ability to evoke emotions, inspire creativity, and provoke critical thinking. Its exceptional nature lies in its universal appeal and its ability to bridge gaps, bringing people together through a shared appreciation of beauty, expression, and storytelling.
