the best question for you to ask is if you want to work for someone else or work for your self? second is do you want to focus on one aspect or know a bit of everything. If you work for someone else you will follow their rules and go by their prices and concentration. If you work for a specialized company like coloring you get to travel and the opportunity to teach others. if you open your own business you get to say an design everything. That is a powerful place to be in everyday. You determine your skillset and price it at such. You get to do appoint only or walk in welcomes. Which ever path you take the customer experience is what keep brining them back and be loyal to you.

Hi, Valerie !
It's awesome that you want to knw how to become a person who does hair and want to know the good parts of being a Cosmetologist ! I am not one, but would enjoy sharing some insight with you. It is a rewarding and creative career for which you never stop learning !
To become a hair dresser, one goes to Cosmetology School, put in how ever many hours doing people's hair which would be 1600 hours in Arizona. After that, you take your State exam to become Licensed and than take continual education to renew your license every two years.
There are really so many good things about being a cosmetologist. Meeting a variety of people and working with a variety of people is probably the best element. No two days are alike and you grow with the career as you go. There are always new developments, styles, products and techniques shared by industry professionals to advance your skills. Another great aspect of this career is that while making people look good, you make them feel good about themselves, too !
There's another advantage to this career - flexibility. You can work for a salon or more than one, but at the same time, you can free lance by being a private hair dresser and some do home visits to do people's hair. No overhead - just direct payment to you. You can also get into doing hair for the entertainment industry as well as in the modeling world. Wherever there are people with hair, you can work ! Some hair dressers are hired or volunteer to cut hair at nursing homes, too.
The tip I have for you is to be very versatile with this skill. Learn everything about styling, hair dying, product and what's in the product, perms and reverse perms, extensions, braiding, everything. The more you know how to do, the more work you will obtain !
As with every field of work, there are good days and some bad days, but the more you learn about hair salon management, you will be able to handle those few bad days if they happen.
I hope that this this is helpful and I wish you all the best exploring the fabulous future career as a Cosmetologist !
