Hi Paula,
Accounting is definitely an intrinsic and complex major and career. As with what Kevin mentioned, using external resources and not doing it alone can go a very long way. This always you to build camaraderie and tackle problems from different perspectives. A lot of the beginning accounting classes are very fundamental to the practice and they can be challenging. Learning these core concepts is vital as it is the foundation as you progress through the accounting pathway. It is totally okay to not grasp concepts right away and I would say that is normal. I hope you find success during your accounting journey and that it proves beneficial!

I’m not certain which specific topics you’re referring to and don’t see the benefit in guessing. I would, however, note that certain barriers to a career in accounting have been recently lowered: the CPA exams have been restructured in a way that many believe is easier, particularly the time limit you have in which to pass them.
Of course that doesn’t help you when you’re in your undergrad accounting program. If you find that your professor and your class materials aren’t presenting topics in a way that you’re grasping, I highly suggest looking up “Farhat Accounting Lectures” on YouTube. His presentations are clear, and he breaks topics into digestible bits that many accounting students and professionals find helpful.
Beyond that, I also recommend forming study groups in your classes. You might find that topics that are clear to you might be difficult for others, and vice versa.
