Graduated cum laude in 2009, into an environment where every entry level engineering job had over 600 qualified applicants, many of whom were full PE engineers with 10+ years experience willing to accept entry-level pay because they were desperate. Received actively abusive treatment by several hiring managers who insisted that because I had "only" a 3.6 GPA I had to not only offer to work for free to get noticed, but that I would be working 84 hour weeks for free indefinitely because someone even more desperate for experience towards PE was always available immediately. Master's with 3.7 GPA did not help. I have applied to over 5000 jobs over the past ten years and haven't received an interview for an engineering position since the intensely abusive one in 2009.
