Ashley’s Career Stories
Did anyone ever oppose your career plans when you were young or push you in a direction you did not want to go?
My parents encouraged me to get a business degree for undergrad because I am good with numbers. They were hesitant in supporting my in my graduate school pursuits, which focuses on the fields of education and human services.
How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?
I originally applied to the school where I received my bachelor's for their education program. I later switched to business, and then found my way back to studying education in graduate school. Sometimes we become discouraged about what we really want to do; my advice is to keep moving forward if you know you are passionate about something.
When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?
I have been involved in the community service organization Circle K International, and I gained a lot of experience that I always use professionally. I learned budgeting skills, marketing skills, social/emotional learning skills, and more.
