Hi Nathan, What a great goal you have set for yourself. There are many things you can do to start preparing yourself but I think it would depend on how old you are. But for starters you should love art and maybe take some art classes. Any kind of art is fine from pencil drawings to sculpturing. Read! Read about architects and architecture discover what is out there. Do well in school, study hard and take education seriously. Architecture School is a competitive program so to get in you need to prove yourself in high school. Also learn about different architecture school programs. They are not all the same and you maybe surprised as to what you may discover. Find a NCARB accredited college / university or community college that offers a transfer agreement with a NCARB accredited program (this is important if you ever want to become a licensed architect).
If you are already a creative (you do not need to be), assemble your work into a portfolio. This can include simple sketches, graphic design, photography, actual art, etc. This could help with scholarship opportunities when applying to a college / university. Again - you do not need to be a creative, I received my scholarships through writing because I did not have a portfolio at the time.
