Mark Francis’s Answer

Although federal, state, county, and municipal government entities indeed offer professions relating to wildlife management and conservation; keep in mind that the private market does as well (i.e. non-governmental conservation organizations, outdoor recreation organizations, etc.). I would recommend that while you acquire a degree in an applicable field, you also incorporate volunteering efforts while you are still in school; which will allow you to build your professional support network and mentor-base. Although “what” you know is crucial, “who” you know can often give one an advantage in a challenging job market.
