What more should I do besides applying to positions in the finance industry to get hired and stand out? #Spring25
Specially majoring in finance and have been applying to multiple internships and l've gotten no luck. It's been hard constantly getting rejected it just makes me feel defeated. I am not going to stop trying but I just feel like applying is not enough. Jobs want experience but how am I going to get experience if no one is willing to let me get an internship. I am graduating in May 2026 from Rider University. #Spring25

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but it's great that you're not giving up on finding what you want. Keep searching, and you'll eventually be in the right place at the right time where someone will appreciate your skills and background.
While you're looking, try exploring different ways to find opportunities. Do you have family or friends who might know people in your field? Are there local career fairs you can attend? Consider joining organizations or clubs that match your interests.
These steps could lead to new opportunities you might not have thought of.
Best of luck in your search!

I'm sorry to hear you're applying and having no luck. I'd recommend networking in places where your target companies are. A lot of finance, FinTech, and banks spend a lot of money in recruiting efforts. They're often sponsoring or participating in networking events where you can start meeting recruiters or hiring managers. If your University has networking events try to attend those or if not look in your community for Meetup groups or Eventbrite events. Sometimes there will even be local professional groups where you could get in and meet people in your field and building those relationships and getting referrals from folks can make a difference in the hiring process.
If you've already tried networking, I'd also recommend building your personal brand online. Since you're in school you could share about things you're learning, talk about something that's trending in finance, or posing a question to others on LinkedIn. Starting to build a network and getting your thoughts out there is a great way to meet new people and to stand out from the crowd. So often students will avoid this feeling like they don't have anything worth sharing but there are leaders out there who want your fresh perspective on things that are relevant in your field. If writing your own posts is too much, consider commenting on others posts to raise your visibility. You can often find hiring managers, recruiters, and other professionals from the companies you're considering on LinkedIn and if you make meaningful comments and start to build relationships you never know when one of those comments could open the door to your first opportunity.
Hope this is helpful and best of luck to you!

Hey Vanessa!
To get into the finance industry is difficult in itself. Majoring in finance is a great start so keep your grades up as it will stand out! Keep applying to internships even if you have gotten no luck! I understand that it feels tough but you can't lose hope. As someone who received internship offers from all 4 big four firms, I would highly recommend you join a Finance or Business club in your college to improve your network and be able to participate in company events and get your name out there to any recruiters that come to events for interns too. Also heavily prioritize LinkedIn and create a strong profile as well.
I would also recommend using a website called www.extern.com and apply for some externships that will help boost your resume. These externships are 1-2 month long company projects that are about a college topic. In your case, there are plenty of finance externships that you can apply to and participate in which will help boost your resume and give you a better chance in getting internships in the future!
Best of luck to you and don't lose hope!
