Which is the best education path, major-wise, that will set me up for success in graduate school for industrial-organizational psychology?
I am a senior in high school about to graduate, and I was wondering how I could up my chances of getting into graduate school for industrial-organizational psychology since it is such a competitive and small field. Which courses would you recommend that I take in addition to the prerequisites? Additionally, is there a certain minor that would boost my chances of getting a job in the field?

I totally agree with what Collette said and would add the following:
FIRST - once you find a program you like and feel aligns with your professional goals, look at the professors and research labs associated with the program; look at what they're researching and if you find one you're particularly interested in then DEFINITELY reach out to the professor leading the lab as well as some of the current grad students. The world is still very much about who you know AND - more importantly - who knows YOU. Networking will help get you where you want to go faster.
SECOND - make sure your grades and extra curricular are aligned with getting into the best program you can. Grad school is even more critical than undergrad for leveling up as the people you meet and work with lay the foundation for your entire professional career.
Lastly, HAVE FUN...you'll never have a period like this again in your life so remember to enjoy the physical, emotional, and intellectual freedom you have through grad school.
Conquer the world!~~~ you got this!

Hi Liliana! In addition to what is mentioned above, I'd suggest getting exposure to data visualization, data science, and AI. In recent years, these have all evolved so much, especially data science and AI! These may naturally be incorporated into some courses you take, but the more exposure you have in advance, the better in my opinion!
Best of luck! I/O Psychology is a great field with so many paths you can take!

Hi Liliana,
Great question! First off, big congratulations on getting this far in your studies. You're doing amazing! Industrial-organizational psychology is a fantastic major that blends Psychology and Business, setting you up for success. It's a smart idea to start looking into colleges to understand their requirements. Taking some business courses can really give you a boost. If you're thinking about a minor, consider Statistics, Business Administration, or Computer Science. These can really enhance your career opportunities. Keep up the great work!
