How can I prepare in my freshman year of college to earn a government internship by junior year?
I am a forensic science major at Texas A&M University and I'd like to earn an internship with the FBI by my junior year.

In addition to the suggestions below, I would recommend adding a few liberal classes to your schedule, if such can be accomodated. Government jobs are not just deep technical efforts, you also want to be able to present, communicate and analyze well. Government work, particularily if you get involved reviewing legislation or proposals will be much easier if you have a strong foundation in liberal arts. You also can pursue organiations at your college which give you opportunities to present. Great training is debating. Again, this is all to augment your focus on more technical studies. Good luck.

Hi Addison,
An internship with the FBI sounds phantastic. You can lay the groundwork by maintaining excellent grades and earning outstanding recommendation letters. Talk to your professors if you can do undergraduate research in your department and if they can facilitate any internships, at the FBI or anywhere else, through their contacts.
There are also forensic police labs in Texas where you can apply for internships. I am leaving some links for you:

Forensic Science Department Austin Texas: https://www.austintexas.gov/page/internship-program

Garland Texas Police Department: https://www.garlandtx.gov/566/Forensic-Investigation-Unit

I hope this helps! All the best to you!
