How do I deal with a lack of financial aid?

I'm getting nothing federally or from the University because my parents make too much to qualify, but they aren't financing my education. Is there anything I can do aside from accept crippling debt for life?

Hi Elias. Thanks for sharing your question. You may be surprised to know that you have more options than you realize...

I shared this similar answer on another question that another student asked about scholarships..

I recommend a book that you can buy on Amazon. The Ultimate Scholarship Book. That book lists scholarships in more ways than you can imagine.

You can see scholarships based on fields of study, state of the applicant or desired school, religious affiliations...you name it. And there are literally thousands of them.

Grab a copy. Then find a quiet corner where you can read through the scholarships that fit your circumstances. There are also great resources at your local library if you want to add another place to dig into scholarships.

Once you find what works for you, apply and share all of your amazing-ness. :) Be careful not to sacrifice quality over quantity. Taking the time to fully engage in a meaningful way for a few scholarships will be better in the end, than applying to many many scholarships without putting in good work on your applications.

Look into whether the school/program you are interested in offers grants, work-study programs. Also at some schools, if you volunteer for some jobs, like becoming a resident assistant (RA), you can get discounts on student housing.

In general, financing your education is about patience and persistence. Seems to me you have the chops to exercise both :).

Best of luck to you.
