How could studying abroad enhance my education as a music major?
Where are some good places to study abroad for music? I am interested in performance and education. I also have an interest in early music and oratorio.

I was a Music major and went on a 2 week study abroad trip to London. Absolutely loved it- had a blast. How did it enhance my education for music? simple- it didn't. I was studying something different, though music was a small part. If you're only looking for experiences in college only to help your major then you won't get the full experience of college. Branch out. Try new things. Have fun. College is about making memories AND about the degree. In all honestly, if it was only about the degree, I wouldn't have gone to school cause music is one of those disciplines that your work is the most important thing- more than a degree (Unless you want to teach in a school or university). My study abroad trip allowed me to interact with people not in my major, learn history and stand where history happened, and see a different culture first hand.
I personally believe that it doesn't matter where you study music because there are talented professors and students everywhere. I also believe that you should take as many opportunities to learn other things in college as well. For example, my study abroad topic was history and philosophy with some topics focusing on visual and performance art- like Shakespeare. I can confidently say that my study abroad trip was a huge highlight of my time is school and some of my favorite memories happened there. And no one else in my group was studying music- heck I was only one of three real musicians in the group.
I hope this helps. This is by no means saying anything discouraging or telling you not to do something. By all means, find a study abroad opportunity for music. But my two cents is to choose something you really couldn't study anywhere else to study abroad. I got to see a Shakespearean show in THE Globe Theater, got to tour THE London Castle, and purposely got lost to see a different culture. All while not worrying about practicing my pieces, writing new melodies, or even thinking about music theory at all. And music is my entire life- so coming from me that's a surprising thing to say! lol
