How many years of nursing experience do midwifery schools like to see before a student applies and does the kind of nursing experience matter? #Spring25
I am a current high school senior accepted into a nursing program. I want to become a nurse-midwife.

Hi Emmeline,
It’s great that you’re already thinking ahead! Most midwifery schools don’t require nursing experience for admission, as they provide that training themselves.
Focus on excelling in your nursing program. While experience isn’t mandatory at this stage, any exposure to women’s health during your studies (volunteering, shadowing) will be beneficial later on.
Good luck with your nursing journey!
