What made you realize you wanted to become a EMT and how do you deal with the stress the job brings?
#spring25 Im a senior in high school who is going into the medical field. Im struggling to know which path I should take for the future between becoming a Paramedic or a radiologist technician. So I'd love to hear how you knew your job was what you wanted to do for the rest of your career.

Hi Cyrah, I am a former volunteer EMT. I realized I wanted to become an EMT when I volunteered at a local hospital and say EMT's in action. I knew that I wanted to help others and give back to my community. I spent several hours shadowing an EMT and then completing the training course to become certified. During training, you will learn the skills needed as well as techniques to deal with stress. Talking with a trusted person is always very helpful when you are dealing with stress. Prioritizing time to take care of yourself is also important. Finally, apps like Headspace and Calm or YouTube have many great meditations where you can destress.
A great way to determine what you want to do is to shadow someone, volunteer, and/or speak with others who are in your potential career. Remember that you can always change paths if a certain path does not feel right.

Hello Cyrah, I have been a paramedic for about 9 years. I will admit EMS is not the easiest field to get into but it is so rewarding in other ways. I knew I wanted to be a paramedic since I was 17 because I knew that I wanted to help people and save lives. Yes their are many fields that can achieve that goal but as a Paramedic You get to be on the front lines. You are one of the very first people to help someone. The chance to make a difference in a person's life is can quite honestly boil down to seconds. I chose my field because I love what I do and knowing I made a difference no matter how small or big there is no way to describe that special feeling you have inside. It is a calling that not many people have. I can not unfortunately give input on any other fields but I promise if you choose to be a paramedic, yes it is very challenging and lots of studying but the payoff in your career is so worth it at the end.
