In your experience, what’s the most effective way to build meaningful connections with others?
I find networking events so intimidating and have no idea how to approach them to begin with.

Networking events can feel a bit scary, no doubt. When I'm heading to one, I like to think of a recent event to chat about, like a sports game, holiday, or new TV show or movie. For instance, you could start by asking if someone watches a certain show and if they saw the finale. If they say 'no,' you can simply ask, "What do you like to watch?" and find something you both enjoy.
Another idea is to ask if they have any fun travel plans. Maybe they've just been to a place you've visited, and you can swap stories. If they're not into traveling, it might be because they have hobbies or commitments that keep them nearby, and they might be happy to talk about those instead.

I suggest you "ask for others' help." It's really effective. People tend to notice and care more about those they've helped before. It makes them feel good. So, try asking for help, even with small things. It can help build a connection.

It's normal to feel nervous about networking events, just like many others do. A good tip is to mention your nerves out loud—it can help you feel more at ease. Often, the person you're speaking with will understand and relate, which can help you connect on a personal level.
Before the event, plan how you'll introduce yourself. Think of a few easy questions to start a conversation. Remember, networking gets easier the more you practice!
