Firstly, I would like to say thanks for the scholarship opportunity. How important is it for you is to get an internship before your first job? #Spring25
I haven't had an internship before and I'm kind of nervous that I am missing something important.

Hi Eric, this is a great question. The simple answer is an internship will help you have a job aligned for you even before you graduate and help diminish the imposter syndrome that many new professionals feel at first integration into the workplace. Internships will help you understand the work space beforehand which makes it easier once you officially start working. Usually, students find that what they learn in school is merely the foundation of what their actual profession requires. This can make adjusting from student to professional a bit challenging. However, if you were to intern prior to having a full-time job then you will know what is expected of you and how to approach those expectations.

Hey there!
Don't stress too much, but internships and hands-on experiences are very helpful and can be important. From a resume perspective, they show that you have some sort of contextualized understanding of what it looks like to hold a real job. School prepares you with a lot of knowledge and experiences, but the hands-on opportunities offered in internships are very helpful and can differentiate you as a cantidate against others. Generally, students look for internships the summer following their sophomore year of college through the summer before their senior year of college. However, I had many friends still getting internships the summer after their graduation date!
Internships can also help you understand jobs you like and ones that are not a great fit.
