"How does a college student manage relationships with family and friends while doing what best for their education?"
When I get to college, I plan to go somewhere close to home for at least two years to get a handle on college life. After, I want to travel to a more dedicated school towards my career. The question I have is: "How will I be able to manage the distance between me and my family while still doing what's best for my education?"

Hi Jamie - congratulations on your next adventure! I'd recommend calendarizing specific time for catching up with family, virtually. This might look like a Sunday afternoon reminder to call your loved ones (parents, siblings, grandparents... whomever) and you will fall into a nice routine of always calling at that time, without other distractions or schoolwork occupying your time. It could also look like a weeknight facetime on a night that you learn is lighter on your calendar. It might also look like setting a goal to return home X times per semester or year to celebrate a holiday or just have a general visit... this can look different for everyone, but the key is getting it on the calendar.

Some students really value their friendships during college. They often hang out with friends even after classes. While they mostly see their families on weekends, this time with friends can be a great way to build strong connections and enjoy their college years.
