How does one come to be a graphic designer for multiple different industries such as fashion, food, and streaming?

I want to become a graphic designer, but I want to do graphics for a number of things like movie posters and package design. I just want to know if it is possible to do multiple media types in one career.

Hi Amari, I’d say that to become a graphic designer capable of working across multiple industries you’ll need a combination of strong foundational skills, diverse portfolio pieces, and a willingness to adapt and learn are essential. This involves mastering design principles, gaining experience in various design areas, building a strong portfolio showcasing diverse projects, and continuously updating your knowledge and skills. MOST importantly I think this will come with TIME, you should choose one of your specialities first and after you are well established you can start to branch out to other specialties. Hope that helps!

This is a great question. I spent my career making sure i didn't get labeled as someone that does only one kind of client. Big agencies will usually make you focus on a specific area. BUT mid sized to small agencies usually have a larger variety of smaller clients. As a result, I found myself chasing opportunities to have fun over opportunities to chase a dollar.
