What is one thing I should do before (or during) my freshman year of college?

I am a current high school senior who has been accepted to and enrolled at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for meteorology. My first semester is Fall 2025, and I am trying to prepare myself for freshman year. I already have a potential roommate, but I am looking for tips for my first year. My fall semester consists of 6 classes (Chemistry, Chemistry lab, Calc 1, English, Weather, and a general college success course), and I am worried about managing my time. It will also be the first time living dorm-style, and I don't know what to expect.

Any college tips would help!

Time management is super important when you start your freshman year in college. Aim to spend at least two hours studying or preparing for every hour you spend in classes or labs. Living in a dorm is great for making friends and having fun, but make sure to also set aside time to study in a library or a quiet spot. You can do it!

You will be balancing a busy course load, so my best tip is to figure out how you’ll organize your schedule to be prepared for what is coming.

Paper calendars are still my favorite way to keep track of travel, deadlines, and other important happenings. I use color coding to help me differentiate between types of events. You’ll need to find what works best for you.
