How do I go about getting my teaching certification after I graduate with my major?
I had previous asked what the difference is to getting my teaching cert, during college or after. But now I'm facing a situation that my college may no longer be offering the secondary in education any longer with my History degree. Now I need to really figure out how I can earn that somewhere else. I do not want to change colleges or my degree. #Spring25, #education

Hello Michael,
I may relate to your concern, as I have recently obtained my sub license. As for your teaching cert, if you plan on becoming a teacher, you should def obtain this during college. This gives you a good chance in landing a interview when you apply to become a certified teacher after you graduate. Take the necessary courses required and get the prior knowledge so you are prepared.
Best,

Generally, during your last two years, you coordinate with the department of education at your college. and they set up a plan to receive your certificate along with your degree. If they will no longer offering a secondary level certification for your degree, they your best bet is to find an alternative certification program in your area. There are some alternative education programs available online, but make sure that the program is accredited or approved by the Texas Education Agency, as that is the agency that will administer the certification exam and grant you your teaching certificate.
