What are some general college tips?
What are some job opportunities near NYU? I was wondering if it's competitive to just find any kind of job nearby especially because I don't have a lot of experience. As an incoming NYU freshman I was wondering if appealing aid helps at all. Also, what are the best classes to take as a liberal studies core student, I'm not planning to stay for global studies so I was wondering what the best course of action would be.

Hey Sophy!
Congrats on getting into NYU! Thats amazing. Now lemme just say, Yes, appealing financial aid can help! If your financial situation has changed or if you believe there’s been an error in your aid package, it’s always worth reaching out to the financial aid office. Sometimes, they can adjust your award based on new information, so don’t hesitate to ask.
So, now, finding a job in NYC can be competitive, but don't worry too much, there is always plenty of part-time job opportunities around NYU, even for those without a lot of experience. Consider looking for jobs in cafes, retail stores, tutoring, or even on-campus positions. These often don’t require extensive experience and are a great way to get started. Check out job boards like NYU's own, as well as sites like Indeed, Glassdoor, and even Craigslist for listings near the campus.
Since you're not planning to stay for global studies, focus on courses that align with your personal interests and goals. As a liberal studies student, you'll likely have flexibility in your curriculum, so consider classes that complement your strengths or explore new subjects that intrigue you. You might want to look for classes in areas like writing, communications, or ethics—these can build useful skills for many career paths. Talk to your academic advisor about tailoring your courses to what suits you best!
Hope this helps, and good luck with your freshman year at NYU Sophy.

Check out if you're eligible for America Reads/Counts through the NYU work study program. It matches students with local schools in NYC to tutor students in reading and math.
As a transfer student, I participated in my junior and senior year and was matched with a wonderful school only a few blocks away from most of my classes. It was easier to fit in my schedule and there was a lot of structure and support for the program.
