How do I find research and internship oppurtunities in college?
I am a high school senior and will be studying biochemistry in the fall. I was wondering when people generally begin doing these things and how to find them.

There's often a blend of timing. There might some opportunities that open up at the turn of semester - especially for companies that are integrated with your school already and posting annually at the beginning of semesters. In some cases it might be as simple as midnight on the first day of class - a time some students aren't watching for or thinking about such posting and you might be noticed by being prompt.
Other opportunities (especially research) might be intermittent based on when grants are approved that fund interns. In some cases finding a professor with research that's interesting to you and expressing that interest can help you find an opportunity with them or their peers. Don't underestimate building academic relationships with the people around you - the study groups you join, the TA's you see outside of class, the questions you ask your professor - they all build upon each other for your reputation and visibility.
Also don't underestimate the career fair cycles your school will likely host. In some locations there may be local career fairs also relevant to you. Do some research on the internships of companies who are attending, and look to peers a few years more senior in your program for guidance.

If your college hosts job fairs during the school year, make sure to go every time, even if you're not quite ready. Try to get to know the recruiters from companies you like. In accounting, most students don't start internships until after their second year. Also, check if your university has a Career Office.
